Darihal Terhapusnya Hukum dan Kanun di Tanah Melayu

By the Second Charter of Justice of 1826, a united Courts of Judicature was established for the Straits Settlements of Penang, Malacca and Singapore. These Charters of Justice were significant for they herald the reception of the English common law and equity into the Malay Peninsula.

As stated by Malkin R In the Goods of Abdullah: “I refer to the case of Rodyk v Williamson ….in which I expressed my opinion that I was bound by the uniform course of authority to hold that the introduction of the Kings Charter into these Settlements had introduced the existing law of England except in some cases where it was modified by express provisions, and had abrogated any law previously existing.”
