KUALA LUMPUR: Former director-general of Museums Department,Datuk Dr Adi Taha, 60, died from cancer at his house in Setapak here, early Saturday. His daughter Adzimah, 30, said he passed away at 2.40am and his remains were placed at No 1, Jalan Ayer Leleh 2, Ayer Panas, Setapak.
She said the remains were to be buried at Titiwangsa Muslim cemetery before or after zohor prayers. Born on Aug 3, 1951 in Kodiang, Kedah, Dr Adi leaves wife, Wan Aminah Wan Yusof and six children. Dr Adi served as director-general of the Museums Department from 2002-2007.
Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Dr Rais Yatimwas among the first to pay condolences. Dr Rais described Dr Adi as a pioneer in museum work having done research on prehistoric human artifacts, the Bujang Valley civilisation and customs.
"Dr Adi also assisted in efforts to create Muzium Adat in Jelebu, Negri Sembilan. His loss will be felt among the heritage and culture academia," he added. - Bernama
